Okay maybe not all listening

"I was a bit underwhelmed with the JOALs. As a bass-head, I felt I was not well-represented by “the Jack”. Don’t get me wrong, my appreciation for the fine midrange did not go unnoticed. But I just think having a little more thump in the kind of music I like to listen to (mostly funk and EDM) makes it little more for me. Justin also recommended the DCA Noire XOs to me , they’re a bass-heads dream. I am now kind of shying away from Abyss because of the line’s general array of non-sub signatures. Not for me."

Great HPs!

"Very nice HPs. They sound fantastic. I have been using them mostly with HPA4 and ENVY. Very detailed without being overly etched, overly trebly, or otherwise fatiguing. Also, the bass is very articulate with excellent detail/timbre. Very pleased with them. A nice compliment to Susvara. Both very different sound signatures but both incredibly satisfying headphones."

Best abyss I’ve tried…

"So these are my favorite abyss headphones I’ve tried, but I still need to do some more testing. I really want to try the bass ported suede pads bc I wasn’t a big fan of the hybrid bass ported pads. The JOAL is still not very easy to drive and is pretty amp picky, but If you can find that right synergy then the stage is really wide, great imaging and spacing, bass is super tight, even though I like to increase the quantity quite a bit, but I’m a bass head, there isn’t any sibilance in the highs but can get pretty close at times, mids are pushed forward but not too forward. If your a fan of the Diana’s these are the most relaxed version but ati highly detailed, they just don’t shove it down your ears like the rest."

Most comfortable Abyss ever.

"For my large head. 7. 75 baseball cap. The JOAL feels great with no pressure anywhere. Jazz is alive and female vocals silly smooth. Abyss hit a HR with the JOAL, for my ears."

My favorite headphone so far

"I owned the LCD-X, NOIRE, Empyrean, Grado and they don't come close to the comfort and all around ability of the JOAL. The bass is visceral and it never impedes on other frequencies. Next up is the 1266 Phi TC for me."

Abyss JOAL/Amp Pairing

"I really like the Abyss JOAL's. If I could give them four and a half stars, I would. I like the way they look. They're built extremely well. I find them very comfortable. The optional accessories, which cost extra, are extremely useful and really worth it. However, I'm a loud listener, and my tube amp (a Cayin HA-3A) struggled to drive them. I eventually connected them to a relatively powerful solid state amp, a Violectric HPA V281 LE. Problem solved. They sound great on the Violectric."
