Our Take

Developed from the multi-award-winning transportable Hugo 2, the Hugo TT 2 is bigger, better and more advanced in every way.

The Chord Hugo TT2 DAC packs more audio performance than ever in its svelte chassis, delivering a world-class level of resolution and musicality, particularly when paired with the new Chord Hugo M Scaler. For the best headphone listening experience, team the TT2 DAC with our Blue Hawaii SE for electrostatic headphones, or our GS-X mk2 or GS-X Mini for your dynamic and planar magnetic headphones.

The Story

Radically Redesigned

Hugo TT 2 has been radically redesigned from the ground up, not only with beautiful new casework by Chief Designer, John Franks, but with 5x the processing power of the original Hugo TT and double that of the multi-award-winning Hugo 2. Hugo TT 2 distils over 20 years of digital development by Rob Watts and takes advantage of the very latest technology.

As expected, it delivers radically improved technical specifications and measurements across the board and exhibits drastic sonic benefits over its predecessor with 768kHz PCM and DSD 512 playback. Hugo TT 2 sets a new benchmark in table top audio, only being eclipsed by DAVE.

Delving deeper, in comparison to the 256-tap filters that traditional chip DACs may run at, Hugo TT 2’s beating heart is a powerful Xilinx Artix 7 FPGA, custom-coded by Chord Electronics’ Rob Watts, with 86x 208MHz cores running in parallel to create an advanced 16FS WTA 1 filter with 98,304-taps. Double that of its multi-award winning transportable brother, Hugo 2 (49,152). Hugo TT 2 also benefits from an upgrade from a 4-element design to a 10-element design, which works in harmony with the radically upgraded FPGA and code to deliver unrivalled audio.

High-Power Output Stage

A brand new high-power discrete output stage coupled with second-order noise-shaping integrated between the DAC output and filter is also employed to massively reduce distortion. Further improvements have also been made to the power delivery. Hugo TT 2 eschews the Li-Po battery power supply of the original and ushers in six super capacitors capable of delivering huge, linear dynamic currents when the music demands it with peak output of 5A, 9.3V RMS.

Hugo TT 2 also brings home the much loved four-stage user-selectable filter controls introduced with Hugo 2 and retains the three-stage user-selectable digital crossfeed function for headphone users who want to improve the perception of depth, similar to that of speakers.

Love the Hugo TT DAC and HeadAmp service

"Love the Hugo TT2 Day. It has amazing audio quality and soundstage. Equally impressive is the quick shipping of product from HeadAmp and the nice packaging!"

Definitely Worth The Price

"I was more than a bit skeptical that I would hear much improvement over the Hugo2 when I splurged on this. Was I ever wrong about that! I wanted to upgrade my chain after getting the HFM Susvara. The difference was immediate. It was the proverbial veil lifting. Improvements were across the board: larger soundstage, better separation between instruments, significantly increased detail. Looking forward to upgrading from the GS-X mini to the upcoming CFA3!!!"

One of the best dac

"Used to have Hugo 2 before. Now once ordered abyss 1266 realized I need more powerful Dac. Delivery was fast and easy. Great support from the team!"

The best I have heard

"I am 100% happy with the Hugo TT2. It really does produce a wonderful sound. For example, I had given up using a pair of Grado PS1000s with other DACs, and then I plugged them into the Hugo TT2 and man-o-man, they sound great! It is as if I had a new pair of headphones. The sound thru Sennheiser HD800s is nicer, fuller, more detailed than thru the Sennheiser DAC (HDVD 800). The HugoTT2 also produced almost perfect reconstructions thru some IEMs (Audeze LCDi4). The full frequency range seems clear and derailed, the bass is sweet (wonderful with the Grados, which are more bassie than the Sennheisers), and nice thru the other headphones. Highs are fantastic, and I can hear things I missed in the past. The service at Headamp is great, delivery was rapid, the DAC is simple to set up, and has a wide range on input possibilities, space for 2 headphones and an IEM for that type of output, and can be used as a pre-amp (or amp) for other devices. The power is outrageous, and will drive anything you have. It took me 2 years to build up the courage to by this, and I am super happy I did."

Very Musical DAC

"The Chord Hugo TT2 is a nice upgrade from the Chord Hugo 2 and I appreciate the filters available. The TT2 has a rich, musical, presentation. I have had the pleasure of listening to live choral works recently that were also available as new recordings, and while we do not benefit from the room acoustics from the live cathedral venue at home, the TT2 brings a very rich quality to the ensembles' voices and is immensely enjoyable."

first step to my end game DAC.

"Before Chord Hugo TT2 I've tried so many DACs and every time I like those DACs like IFIs and RME ADI-2 with THX AAA789 , however there were always something are missing to my mind witch is like "texture, image and wide soundstage and details." and the Hugo TT2 gives me that! Yes the price to too expensive but if you are seeking the best and end game DAC , Hugo TT2 is the one you should looking for. It's excellent for headphones and is used as pre-amp + DAC. So why 4 Stars? Because Chord should bring The Hugo TT2 with hi quality remote and wires and power cable! I feel they are just OK. My second and final step "as i hope" will be the M-Scaler and it is already in my plan for 2023."

Absolutely Awesome

"I received my TT2 today and everything came in without issue and delays. Super quick shipping! The build is rock solid and since I don't like reading instructions, took me about 10 minutes to figure out how to utilize the USB function so it works off my PC :) I'm currently rocking the TT2 with the Audeze LCD-5 and wow, so much clarity, space, and detail. I am coming from the Zen stack, so I knew there'd be a jump and the hype is real. If you have the funds available, I highly suggest getting this beast. You will not be disappointed! First song I played was Nine Inch Nails - Head Like A Hole, I know this song like the back of my hand and instantly heard things I didn't hear before. 3 hours of listening later, I can attest that this will pick up everything your headphones were meant to pick up. Buy now and enjoy!"

Amazing DAC/AMp

"Ab exceptional Dac/Amp with superior quality.. Justin from headamp really helped me get the amp on time..v Highly recommend!"

Govind (5/5)

End Game!

"Truly great DAC on its own and even better when paired with M Scaler!. Coming from Qutest (which is a better value) Hugo tt2 is in a class on its own, more separation and smoothness all around. Not just the DAC the headphone amp is pretty good as well and you would not need any external amp unless you have very hard to drive headphones. It's the end game for me esp. paired with MScaler. At this price range of course there are other option too but you simply don't go wrong with this. If you are on the fence just do it!"

Anand (5/5)

Wonderful Upgrade and Fantastic Service

"I upgraded from the Hugo 2 to the TT2. There is certainly an increase in resolution and transparency. The headphone section is also much better and capable of driving my Abyss Diana V2s. The service from Headamp is fantastic. They were able to process and ship my order quickly. I received it one day after placing it."
