ÆON 2 Noire is the latest edition of the award-winning ÆON 2 Closed headphone. Featuring a bold metallic black paint ÆON 2 Noire sports a perforated ear-pad to deliver an all-new sound. In fact, ÆON 2 Noire's tuning almost exactly aligns to the “Harman Curve,” gently boosting bass and treble compared to ÆON 2 Closed. The result is a “lighter” sounding midrange and a soundstage that moves the “stage” a bit further from the listener for a wider and deeper space.

Big Full-size Sound, Small Size for Portability

Dan Clark Audio (formerly MrSpeakers) is pleased to announce the all new AEON 2 Noire closed-back planar magnetic headphones. AEON 2 features the latest engineering innovations from our team, married with smart industrial design and a price that will make you smile.

The original AEON Flow broke new ground with its ergonomic and stylish industrial design that are hallmarks of Dan Clark Audio designs. From the elegant shape of the earcups, to the lightweight nitinol headband, and the amazing performance of its in-house designed planer drivers, it’s hard to belive we could find a ways to improve it……… but we did!

Back in Black

Since we launched ÆON 2 we have had two frequent requests: make a black version, and offer it with the perforated pads. Well we listened, and here it is! Experience the dynamics, detail and smooth sound of ÆON 2, with a striking black finish and a vibrant new sound with an expanded soundstage and a lighter midrange tone relative to its ÆON 2 Closed sibling. Noire still retains all of the original Aeon 2’s new features including:

  • Updated driver structure flipped 180 degrees to remove magnet and flow structures from the diaphragm to the ear.
  • Streamlined flow elements converted to a single construction, removing air gaps to improve internal airflow.
  • Higher precision machined flow structures replace injection molded parts.
  • Superior driver damping for improved resolution, dynamics and a smoother frequency response.
  • Perforated earpads for a vibrant new tuning. With an even larger soundstage and lighter midrange.

The sum of all these innovations is a headphone the renders music with all its emotional impact: full visceral bass, transparent mids, and detail up top that is presented in an open deep and immersive soundstage putting the music further “out of your head” to create a deeply satisfying experience.

Big Sound, Uncompromised Portability

Many of us at Dan Clark Audio travel extensively around the world to attend headphone shows to meet our incredible customers and dealers. We felt that while the AEON comes with a great case, it was a bit bulky and hard to travel with. When we set out to create the AEON 2 we wanted to improve its portability without sacrificing performance, reliability or comfort. So our engineering team set about making a no-compromise folding headphone and case that would travel more efficiently – and we succeeded.

Our Smart Industrial Design ethos was fully engaged when the team tackled this project, resulting in a singularly cool folding mechanisms that actually improves the clamping, fit, feel, and structural integrity of the entire headphone. All while allowing the headphone to tuck away into the new smaller included semi-hard case with your favorite cable. Taking up half as much space in your back-pack or purse when compared to our previous model.

Specifications

  • Efficiency: 92dB/mW
  • Weight: 340 grams
  • Cable: Detachable 2m premium dual-entry with 3.5mm and 1/4" termination

After listening and acting on customer feedback we are once more thrilled to offer the new Aeon 2 Noire to our passionate customers and hope the community will truly love them. Since its introduction in 2017, the Aeon has pushed the Value/Performance ratio beyond industry standards. In many ways the Aeon is a direct reflection of the primary mission Dan Clark Audio was founded on: providing outstanding performance and engineering at prices well below our competitors so our community of listeners is empowered and excited to use our products.

Bought as a gift, now I want them

"Purchased these as a gift for my niece. My daughters 21 and 29 and I all auditioned them first. Wow! The best closed back headphone that I have ever heard. Great bass and all the air and details up top while absolutely never being fatiguing. And amazing comfort. Woo-hoo"

Best closed back headphones?

"I’ve always preferred the sound of open back headphones, like my Sennheiser HD600 and Grado SR325X, for the more open sound. Plus my ears just get hot with closed backs. It’s uncomfortable and I don’t like it. My wife harps on me about the sound leakage when I’m listening with open back headphones though, so after much research I decided to give the Aeon 2 Noire a try. The cost is more than both of my other 2 sets of headphones combined, so I had very high expectations. I’m using these with a JDS Labs Element 3 connected to my MacBook Pro, and using Apple Music. I’m listening to all my favorite songs all over again, as I would with any new piece of audio gear, and track after track, WOW! It’s so CLEAN, so CLEAR. Everything is presented with pristine clarity. It’s detailed, textured, balanced, and open/spacious like no pair of closed back headphones I’ve ever heard. I would not say the sound is bright or bass-light as many reviewers say online. In fact the bass is better with these than my other headphones, especially with stringed instruments. The bass is super fast though, so some songs with artificial, boomy bass, like a lot of rap music, just doesn’t sound right. If you like that type of music don’t buy these. You won’t get any of that flabby booty bass here. Just clean and accurate. The mids are ever so slightly recessed, contributing to the spaciousness of the sound in a pleasing way. The highs are exceptionally perfect to my ears. These also somehow separate the sounds of the instruments in such a way that even really busy, overproduced tracks sound super clean and you can pick out every instrument easily. I’m hearing things I’ve never heard before even in my favorite songs. The Aeon 2 Noire are easily the best sounding pair of headphones I’ve ever heard, even against my HD600’s with tube amplification. Are they worth the asking price? I would say absolutely, yes. Having said that, this is my first high end pair of headphones, and I would never consider anything over $1000. As for comfort, I find these to be very comfortable. The clamp force is a little firmer than I’m used to, but they’re so light weight and the ear pads are soft enough that it isn’t distracting at all. Also this is the only pair of closed back headphones I’ve ever worn that don’t make my ears sweat. So not only do they sound like open back headphones, but they feel like open back headphones as far as ear temperature is concerned. To top it all off, the wife is happy because sound leakage is negligible. Five stars from me. The ordering experience, speed of shipping, and communication from Head Amp was also exceptional- on the same level as Crutchfield. Five stars there too."

Fantastic CB from DCA

"Everything I've tried from DCA is amazing. Them and Audeze are probably my favorite 2 companies. These are extremely comfortable, even though, IMO, not as comfortable as the ethers and thats mainly because of ether pads are so much softer. They do sound fantastic though. These are about that perfect price point where diminishing starts to kick in pretty hard. I love the headbands on both of these and also the look. I absolutely love the all blacked out version of the Noire. It's a closed back DCA, so you know they sound great. Also, for the first time, HeadAmp sent these out very quickly with no problems at all, TY HeadAmp."

Noire's are an almost perfect portable personal concert!

"Hey guys, I waited a while to do this review to give them some time to break in and understand them better. I already have closed backs. My Focal Stellia are amazing but give me a couple of problems. 1) My ears touch the inside grill a bit and they become uncomfortable for long listening sessions. 2) When it comes time to taking them out with me, I feel like I'm decked out in diamonds / gold bling bling and whatnot. 3) I'm a bit sensitive to their clamp force. The Aeons solve 2 of these problems. My ears have much more room and I'm not as self conscious going out with them. I did get a comment from my kids dentist saying "Are you a pilot or something?". He wouldn't have said anything if I didn't buy these cans from Justin because I wouldn't have brought anything with. I wouldn't have been engulfed in amazing music for the hour it took for my kids to get their mouthes tortured. I would have just sat there twiddling my thumbs. On that note, how do they sound? To put it simply, the sound great! Tuned really nicely imo. Not as detailed as the Stellia and not as effing amazing as the Meze Empyrean. Having said that, no way I'm taking either of those cans with me out in the wild. The Aeons 2 Noire cut out a lot of atmospheric sound and put you in your own little world. So no matter where I go, I can be in my own personal concert. That's probably why Headphones were created in the first place! These Noire's are an almost perfect portable personal concert! So what would I change? The clamp force. I'm overly sensitive to this though and it's nice to be able to adjust the cups around when it starts to bug me. Still not as bad as Stellia in this regard though. I would also make the Portable case a bit larger so you don't have to disconnect the cable. That becomes fiddley and it's an extra step I'de rather do without. Just FYI I'm using these primarily with the Chord Mojo 2. It drives them in the higher gain mode very nicely. Pro Tip : With the Mojo, there's no need to use those included filters to cut back on treble should you feel the need to do that. Just dial it back in the Mojo's EQ and you don't lose any resolution whatsoever. You do however loose a bit if you have the inserts installed. So, in the end I can wholeheartedly recommend these Noires. Thank you Justin & Headamp for an other awesome purchase!! Always a pleasure! Mr Chibs"

Aeon 2 Noire

"The guys at HeadAmp were so accommodating as I was looking for best HP in my price range. They conveniently arranged a listening time, and let me spend as much time as I needed to make my choice. They also respected my preferences, and didn’t try to steer me to any particular brand. My ears told me the Aeon Noire did everything I wanted, at my budget of a sub-$1K product. After 1 week at home, I can enthusiastically recommend these. The mid-range clarity (with no edge!) enables me to hear more into the mix, and the smooth, engaging sound has me listening for more hours than I’ve often intended. A “best-buy” indeed!"
