Good sound, but bad fit and poor sound isolation.

"This was an upgrade from Etymotics ER4s. Sound quality is certainly superior, with cleaner sound, but no excessive bass, a feature I specifically was looking for. The high sensitivity of the drivers is a problem as plugging them into headphone out of either computer or dongle DAC (Dragonfly Cobalt) results in background hum. It is also by far too loud to listen to Bandcamp (which lacks web volume control), even when computer audio is set to lowest possible. I had to get an additional volume control. I had asked Headamp for recommendations, but never got a reply, so not impressed with customer service either. It also makes the IEM contraption a bit of a Frankenstein monster: Device - USB-C to USB2 adapter -> Dongle DAC -> volume controller -> IEM. The sound isolation and fit of the supplied tips is poor. At gym it is impossible to cancel out the music playing over speakers, which was easy with the triflange tips of the Etymotics. Same also for working in shop with loud equipment; the IEMs cannot be used as hearing protection (plus listen to music), unlike the Etymotics. Additionally, when lying down on the couch, the weight of the driver changes its orientation and sound signature becomes lean and unengaging. I am now starting to experiment with different tips. Unfortunately, the Etymotics triflange have too narrow a bore to fit the EA drivers. There do not seem to be triflange tips for larger bore drivers. I have dual flange but still have to put them through their paces. Was thinking of sending them back, but keep them for better sound quality. However, I may have to get some other IEMs that offer better sound isolation, possibly going back to ER4s. At that price, I am a bit underwhelmed."
