Utopia 2022 will take your breath away; their full-range, Beryllium, 'M’-shaped speaker drivers are fully open-backed and run with no passive or active correction, from 5 Hz to over 50 kHz! The design of the new Utopia is a combination of moderation and distinction. Taking the aesthetics of Focal's latest hi-fi open-back (Clear Mg) and closed-back (Stellia and Celestee) headphones, the honeycomb grille on both the outside and inside of the earcups gives a unique and remarkable look. In addition to its Black Chrome rings – now attached from the inside for a cleaner appearance – these headphones introduce new design codes, which will also be used on Focal's future Utopia products. Among them, the "Yin & Yang" featured on the outer case symbolizes the perfect balance between design and technology embodied by these high-end French headphones and the black and red double grille on the speaker drivers' motor unit.
Continuing to strive for excellence in their creations and beginning a new chapter in the history of these iconic headphones, Focal's engineers opted for a new voice coil made of copper – to improve reliability – and aluminum – to make it more lightweight. This alloy provides a rejuvenated sound signature that lends even greater neutrality, with powerful bass and more mellow treble. What's more, the grilles inside the earcups are now M-shaped, following the curves of the speaker drivers to give improved linearity and even more precision. In addition to these innovations, the new Utopia headphones still include everything that made the first editions such a success, such as full-range speaker drivers with pure Beryllium, 'M’-shaped dome, and being fully open-backed for strikingly real listening full of neutrality, dynamics, and transparency. Exclusive to Focal, the patented speaker drivers run with zero active or passive correction, from 5Hz to over 50 kHz. The headphones seem to totally disappear, leaving audio signal reproduction that is unrivaled in its purity.

The new yoke, made from forged, recycled carbon, is an elegant touch whilst making the headphones more lightweight and distributing their weight more evenly. "These are excellence! a high fidelity sound without the overwhelming anylitical sound I found in other high end offerings. These play a magic trick on your mind by conveying music with intimate realism. No emphasis on high/low frequencies, just a balanced neutral sound throughout with great musicality! "I have/had a number of high end headphones, and I feel Utopia is hard to beat as an all-arounder. If I had to keep just one headphone, Utopia might be it. Having said that though, a caveat. If you just want to listen to music for enjoyment, Utopia can be too revealing/sharp. I enjoyed listening to certain tracks on Focal Clear more than Utopia. But then there are tracks where Utopia is just magicial...."
"I was looking for a great pair of all-around headphones that could handle many different genres and I have been very satisfied with the Utopia 2022. While I prefer listening to EDM and hip hop with these, it also does well with rock, classical, and jazz. It’s also proven to be quite efficient and easy to drive, but sounds noticeably different across different amps. It has sounded best through my GSX-mk2 (balanced), but it also sounds great singled-ended through some cheaper tube amps or just plugged into my iphone. Overall it has a warm and transparent sound that favors musicality over being analytic. The bass is great but not excellent (still more than adequate to enjoy it with bass heavy genres but I find it lacking on some tracks where I expected more punch), although this might be a tradeoff for making the bass less fatiguing than the OG Utopia. The soundstage feels more 360 degrees than other headphones I’ve heard, with more sounds seeming to come from behind or over your shoulders. No complaints in terms of comfort, as the clamping force did not feel as tight as I had read. They certainly stay snug on your head, but this never got in the way of enjoying long listening sessions."
"I've been using Senheiser HD660S for almost three years and I've always felt something was missing But, today I met Focal's Utopias!! First impressions were the immaculate detail, design and elegance of a state of the art performing headset. The leather is soft and plush and open back cup design is quite exquisite. Leather box with subdividing cases separates all your vital components to complete this power house package. For those who truely enjoy and immersive/articulate/uncompromising powerhouse headphone experience these are worth the investment. The Focal Utopias will put a smile on your face with each recording, the soundstage is FULL of depth and well rounded dimension other headphones would pale in comparison. The price set is quite steep but if you truly enjoy music and have for decades as I have, then make the financial budge sacrifice and treat yourself to studio grade quality performance enjoyed in the quiet and convenience of your own home!!"
