Why Choose 105 AER?

Meze Audio starts every pursuit by listening. They listened to their community and many have asked for a more affordable open-back headphone. Coupled with the learnings from the 109 PRO, Meze is now introducing the 105 AER - their most affordable open-back headphones to date. Priced at $400, the 105 AER is a real value with an unbeatable price-to-performance ratio.

How Does It Compare To 109 PRO?

The 105 AER features the same beloved headphone structure as the 109 PRO, with the V-shaped double headband & the large and comfortable velour earpads. This headphone features a similar 50mm dual membrane dynamic driver as found in the 109 PRO with some small differences:
• The surround is made of PEEK polymer without the Berrylium coating
• The dome is the same carbon fiber enforced cellulose composite as the 109 PRO
• The frame of the driver is made of ABS instead of the aluminum found in the 109 PRO
• The earcups are the same size as the 109 PRO and are made of ABS.

Sound/Tuning

Carefully tuned by Meze's engineering team, 105 AER offers emotionally engaging sound with great detail, clarity and just the right amount of punch. It’s easy to drive from most devices, either portable sources or intricate home setups. Featuring:
• Open back - Big soundstage and good spatiality
• Versatile and easy to listen to sound profile
• It follows the sound-profile of the 109 PRO with slightly relaxed high frequencies and more sub-bass and bass

Design

The design language for 105 AER carries a feelng of Art Deco opulence, almost like a work of jewellery masked in a mechanical structure.

Sustainability

Following their 'design to last' philosophy, Meze created the 105 AER with quality materials and full serviceability in mind, so customers can use this headphone for a long period of time.

Great looking headphones!

"These headphones have very good bass and tone down the treble of the 109 Pro."

Fun and Comfortable

"I wear headphones from between 4-12 hours per day. I need something that's comfortable, sounds good, and encourages me to listen to music and focus. The Meze 105 AER fit the bill beautifully. Once they're on my head, I can forget about them. Music sounds clear, spacious, and engaging. A big upgrade from the HD600s I was using before."

They were shipped quickly. The package came in good condition. Headphones are built well, and they can be run out of a mobile phone. They are fun headphones with good detail.

"Quality Headphones at a Good Value."

Meze 105 AER Headphones

"Bought these figuring I'd get a lower-priced clone of the 109s. Compared to the Meze 99 Classics, these are a much finer listening experience. 105s are not as warm or murky as the 99s now sound, but the bass is punchy with better definition. Still has that Meze midrange bump but not as pronounced as the 99s. Yes, treble is a bit rolled off but not as rolled off as some reviewers state. If you're trying to decide between these and the 99 Classics, go for the 105s. Youtube reviews are correct - these punch above their weight and clost class."

MEZETASTIC!

"I have not been able to take my Meze 105 AER's off since I put them on this morning for the first time. I have never worn such a comfortable headphone before and I have 56 other pair in my collection - just perfect weight, pads (large full ear cover, velvet soft and just perfect memory foam) and suspension strap fit- bravo Meze. As for the sound, even it's equally impressive. Perfect vocal reproduction ( male and female), super wide soundstage, great detail and instrument separation, perfectly balanced treble, mids and bass - I used it across 7 amplifiers - solid state, tube, R2R, hybrid - and it's just consistent and clean - I've never seen a headphone do that before. For the price it punches way above it's class. Highly recommend."

Meze Audio 105’s, a Musical Budget Open Back

"“Founded by industrial designer Antonio Meze in 2011, Meze Audio is a high-end audio company from Baia Mare, Romania, crafting headphones and earphones renewed for timeless design, pure comfort and engaging, vivid sound. ” (Extracted from the Meze Audio website, About Us section, website. ) This information completely summarizes my experience with my “open box" Meze 105 AER’s I purchased from HeadAmp and received them as in “like new” condition in what appeared original wrapping and all accessories! Thank you HeadAmp! Note: In Romanian AER translates to Air in English. The 105’s wrap comfortably around your head, not too tight nor too loose, just right, they self-adjust when you put them on and stay put. I found them very suited to long listening sessions with their light weight and evenly wrapping around the top of my head, letting me enjoy their wonderful music reproduction. The 105’s offer very good all-around sound quality. I found their music reproduction works with various genre’s showcasing smooth high’s, natural mid’s & balanced bass; combined to provide an “AERy” and spaciousness listening space. Plus, they’re very easy to drive using my Grace Design M900 (M1 Mac Mini) or Helm Bolt Dac/Amp (iPhone 14 Pro). I believe the Meze 105 AER’s hit the mark when it comes to budget great sounding open back headphones with their smooth delivery. My vote is seriously consider them if you’re looking for great sounding & low priced open back headphones."

Very comfortable but sound could be a little better

"Like the title says, the biggest pro of these headphones is that they are very comfortable. This is the first pair of headphones that I've owned with an auto adjusting head band, and it's quite nice. I'm pretty new to the hifi audio world so I don't have a lot of other equipment as a reference point, but as the frequency response of these would suggest, the vocals are somewhat dropped out. It's not much of an issue but I think that it would be an improvement if the upper mids were a little less dropped out and overall more present. Overall though, they have a pretty pleasant, resolving sound. Compared to the cheap pair of headphones that I was using previously, the detail retrieval is much better which is probably owed to the treble being slightly elevated. I will say that this attribute makes cymbals come forward much better in songs, adding some life to a lot of the songs that I listen to. Additionally, acoustic guitars sound quite good on these cans. I tend to like a good bit of bass (I've got the Moondrop Dusks and really like that amount of bass) but I wanted a pair of headphones with a more nuetral sound signature just for everyday use and listening. I thought that these had really no bass, but it turned out I just used to the extra bass added by my dusks. The bass that these do have is pretty nice; not super tight, but better than most that I've heard in my limited experience. Overall, I'd say that these headphones are a good value and that the sound quality, while leaving some to be desired is pretty good."
