Starts with the basics.
The diaphragm is the heart of any headphone, producing the waves our brains ultimately perceive as sound. To meet the acoustic goals set for the 109 PRO, Meze focused its R&D efforts on materials research, looking for the perfect balance between mass and stiffness that would maximize the sonic abilities of the headphone. That search led to the development of the 109 series Dual-Composite Diaphragm – a combination of Beryllium-coated polymer, cellulose-carbon fiber composite, and copper-zinc alloy. This brand new 50mm dynamic driver, assembled and tuned with ultimate precision, allowed us to push the boundaries of speed, accuracy, and dynamic range.
A carbon fiber headband with a genuine leather headrest has been integrated into the frame for an ultra-light feel and maximum durability. Raw materials for various aspects of the build were all chosen not just for the exciting sensory experience their raw texture provides but also for comfort and durability.
Through its open-back design, Meze wanted the 109 PRO to be vivid and exciting, empowering the listener to connect with music on a deeper level. Carefully tuned by their in-house engineering team, it offers emotionally engaging sound with great detail, clarity, and just the right amount of punch. Its organic character, superior dynamics, excellent imaging, and full-bodied vocals bring soul-stirring details to life. Plus, it’s easy to drive from most devices, whether we’re talking portable sources or intricate home setups.
109 Pro's build is all about comfort – from the structural design of the headphone to the choice of materials, all decisions were carefully made to ensure the final product rises to the highest standard in terms of ergonomics. A combination of walnut wood, zinc, manganese steel, and vegan leather in a comfortable, lightweight, yet highly durable structure is utilized to help 109 Pro simply disappear on your head! Once placed on your head, the headphones become unnoticeable, leaving you with nothing but the music.
The 109 PRO is crafted with utmost care for sustainability. Our choices today can significantly impact the world of tomorrow; thus, Meze Audio continues to design products that last. They believe that a longer product lifespan means a smaller footprint. Following this philosophy, the 109 PRO can be taken apart and serviced endlessly if needed, extending the product's life beyond limit. The black walnut wood used for their headphones comes strictly from sources with a certificate of origin, harvested from mature trees that have reached the end of their life cycle. This way, the environment is being protected, leaving room for new life, while the old trees are shining once again, in the shape of a Meze headphone.

"I bought 2 other headphones to compare this to and had my girlfriend who is not in the audiophile world by any means. Here’s what she thought of them. Sennheiser HD558 Focal Haden’s The Sennheiser HD558 she absolutely did not like as they were uncomfortable and she guessed they were the cheapest out of the 3. “Everything feels either really far away or in my face”. Next was the Hadeyns. “I REALLY like the color. This sounds way better than the Sennheiser but it doesn’t feel that much more expensive. It still has a lot of plastic and I think you overpaid for it. ” Last was the Meze 109 Pro. “Now THIS feels expensive!! I feel like I have to be a bit cautious of putting them away and I still think they sound way better than the Sennheiser. It sounds a little more sharp than the Focals but I wouldn’t trade them. Much much more comfortable!” I agree in my own way. As far as the Focals and the Mezes, I believe you get what you pay for and these are absolutely fantastic paired with a tube amp. Would definitely recommend and photos just can’t do it justice."

"These were the fourth or fifth set of headphones I purchased here, and let me tell you, these guys and gals kick ass. Always polite, always fast and always following up to make sure everything is okay. Hell, I make em a casserole every Christmas, I dress up like a devil and stalk Mike on Halloween and I hide Easter Eggs in their engine compartments on Saint Patrick’s Day. They’re like family now! The 109’s sound amazing btw. Great bass and separation. Nice and airy. Solid mids and detailed treble. They turned me into a Meze addict. I just got the Lirics to hang out with their little cousin. And the 99 Neo ain’t too shabby either. Now, when Stan sends me those Elites, all will be complete. Seriously though. Great products and great service are what you’ll find here. Good stuff."

"I previously owned an HD560S and the Meze 99 Noirs ... the 109s are a marriage of the two in the best way possible. All of the clarity and detail of the HD560S, nice soundstage, paired with some of the bass and all of the fun of the 99 Noirs. They are plenty loud out of my headphone jack on my laptop, plenty loud with a Dragonfly Red from my iPhone, and they sound great via Bluetooth with my Qudelix 5k when watching Apple TV. Give "In the Beginning" from Emerson, Lake & Palmer a listen on Spotify, the 109s do a fabulous job creating an intimate environment and the guitars sound so good. Heck, I'm watching pro pickleball right now with my 109s, and all of the details of the ball hitting paddles, shoes squeaking on the court, and crowd reactions all around your head make listening fun. Outside of an iPhone, probably the best money I ever spent on electronics."
"Firstly, the 109 Pro from Meze are phenomenal headphones. Incredibly clear and detailed from sub bass through high treble with excellent sound stage and separation. Incredibly musical, and incredibly comfortable, I can listen for hours without fatigue. Build quality is second to none. I have no complaints and look forward to enjoying these headphones for years to come! That said, HeadAmps customer service is unbelievable. I’m local and asked if I could try a few headphones to get a sense of the sound - they quickly responded to my email (and the rambling string of questions I included) and were incredibly kind and accommodating. They set aside time to let me try several models and compare them to my own current (at the time) favorites. After returning home I ordered these headphones and they let me know I left one of my cables for my other headphones with them by accident. They shipped me the missing cable wrapped carefully in a little baggie along with my order, and the whole arrived overnight packed with care. Thank you for the incredible customer experience!"
