"F'en fantastic!! Very comfortable, easy to wear for hours. Noiseless cable - very flexible. I have been listening to e'stats for 42 years, and these have the best most natural sound I have ever heard. Driven with a SRM-D10."
The STAX SR-007MK2 headphone is the updated version of the classic SR-007 “Omega II”, with a black finish and slightly different driver. The sound is the warmest, lushest sound of any STAX with an emphasis on the mid-to-lower frequencies without a loss of high end detail. It is a more relaxed sound signature compared to the more detail-forward SR-009 models. Like the SR-009s, we recommend our Blue Hawaii SE to amplify your SR-007MK2, to hear the very best of what they are capable of as a demanding, large-driver electrostatic.
When STAX engineers in Japan set out to design the STAX SR-007MK2 Earspeaker (sometimes called the SR-007A Omega MKII) the rationale was to provide deep powerful sound previously unobtainable in Earspeakers. STAX engineers developed a unique new electrode structure. Visible through the outer case, gold plated on the outer edge this new electrode has less holes than conventional STAX Earspeakers and thus provides an increased diaphragm vibration area allowing for rich and powerful sound yet retaining all the delicacy STAX is famous for.
To maintain clear distortion free sound it is most important that nothing other than the diaphragm should vibrate. Within the STAX SR-007A Omega MK II the sound element is encased in a thick insulated resin case firmly fixed to the rigid body. The results are nothing short of spectacular.
Utmost comfort for maximum enjoyment of your STAX SR-007A Omega MK II is provided with earpads that are fully adjustable to the shape of your head. Stax Japan refers to its electrostatic headphone designs as “Earspeakers.” The electrostatic transducer in a Stax Earspeaker consists of two “parallel-arranged fixed electrodes,” between which is suspended a low-mass, high-polymer film that is less than 2µm thick. Simply put, it’s a push-pull driver system. When the fluctuating voltage of the audio signal is applied to the electrodes, as in a Martin Logan speaker, the diaphragm is pulled and pushed.
The 007A Omega II Mk2 Headphones include a deluxe ATA Style Padded Flight Case with Gold STAX faceplate. This rigid case provides the ultimate in protection for your 007’s no matter what the environment!
Setting a section without any holes whatsoever on the perimeter of the electrodes makes it possible to achieve a deeper and more dynamic expressive capacity. There is strong drive power in respect to the diaphragm, and a high degree of linearity is achieve in the opening section too.
As is the case with ordinary speaker systems, the sturdiness of the enclosure is important for earspeakers. After enclosing the sound-producing unit in a thick insulated resin case, it is fixed to a solid metal enclosure. All unnecessary vibration is excluded.
A structure is adopted whereby the enclosure and the earpads are able to rotate independently. This enables positioning that exactly fits the shape of the ears.
An original cable developed with the aim of achieving an even higher level of reproduction is provided. The conductors make use of high-purity PC-OCC. Outstandingly high sound quality is achieved because of the wide ribbon and low capacitance.

"I first owned the 007 Mk2 back in 2009 when they replaced my 007 Mk1. The Mk2 impressed me in every way. The current 007 Mk2 that I just received has many changes over that 2009 pair. Sonically, they are a complete winner, they do simply everything well. They have a nice wide soundstage, good bass and sub-bass, a liquid midrange and silky highs that allow for hours of listening, and above all else, the Stax Speed and transparency. They are an enjoyable alternative to my Stax X9000 and in many ways beat my Meze Elites at their own game and that's a statement for an electrostatic vs a planar. The 007 Mk2 are without question the best value in an electrostatic headphone beating options several times their price and able to compete in the bass department with a good planar. What more could you ask for? Amplifiers used are the Linear Tube Audio Z10e and Mjolnir KGSSHV which has long been a go to amp for the 007 Mk2."
"I've always seem to have versions of the Lambda, including the L700s (with BluTac mod) which sound fine. I've wanted more bass than L700s and have tried various headphones, with and without equalization, but missed the electrostatic sound. The SR-007 are the headphones that I was looking for! With or without equalization, I enjoy the sound, midrange clear and smooth and very good mid-bass. Adding some equalization adds modest improvement and really enjoying a slightly over chubby bass with the Stax sound. I might try the BluTac port closure to reduce the mid bass and improve the deeper bass but right now, I'm just really enjoying the overall sound. The L700 had more bass than any previous Lambda (especially after I BluTac'd the ports) I ever had but the L007 are much, much better. If you're looking for smooth mids and good estat bass, this should be on your very short list."
"This is reviewing Stax SR-OO7 MK2 'phones using a new stock SRM-007Tii amp. If at all possible, I recommend listening to both these and the L700s in person. To me they sound very different. To me the 007 mk2s are darker and as a consequence have a little more body, complexity, and layering than the L700s. If the L700s are extroverts, the 007 mk2s are mildly introverted. They get it right without drawing as much attention to themselves. I think I prefer the 007s to the 700s but even though, or maybe because of, they sound quite different, it's a very close call. They are both excellent. I think the 007Tii amp may be a little better suited to the L700s; but I may be wrong."
"I love these new headphones. I recently got into an estat headphone setup with a set of Stax L300s that hooked me. I have now had a bit of time with the new 007s, and they are quite the step up in tonality and soundstaging. These do require a good amplifier-I originally tried them on my stock 006 TII, which really didn't do these justice or make the sound I really appreciate from them. Moved up to a higher power aftermarket amp, and these really came alive. I can only highly recommend these."
"Really enjoy these estat the most out of five I own. For me the 007 mk2 bass is really good for EDM and has the estat sound that I like as well. Didn't have to close the port for my genre of music. I do use the BHSE so a cheaper amp solution may not give same results."
"as manufactured this earphone has a midbass bloat that I found objectionable. There is a well known fix (on youtube) for this that closes off a port (with a putty material). It took me (totally inexperienced) about 30 minutes to do the mod and my reward is a pair of earphones that exceed sound of the 009s (that I also have)."
"Justin and Peter were fantastic in guiding me to the Stax 007MKII, the best for my system. Great headphones, great support. Highly recommended ."
