"Any pair of Stax that starts with 00 is going to be special, and the 009BK is that indeed. For me they are really end of the road. The problem is you really need a proper amp like the Headamp BHSE to get the most from them. With my Stax T1 they sound on the one hand great but dynamics at all levels are somehow constrained. But that's OK, it means I haven't reached the end of the road!"
"I used the portable D10 amp to drive the headphone and it produce very good high frequency response. Vocal and bass cannot be fully explained by using this portable amp and need to be updated to higher level desk amp to fully drive the headphone. But for portable usage, D10+sr009bk is nice enough."
"First of all, again an amazing feat of customer service by Headamp - ordered on Friday, delivered in Switzerland early Monday morning. Gotta take off my hat to that. Second, the 009BK - don't know what Stax changed (besids the pretty obvious pads), but the reports are true, it IS (YMMV) better than the standard 009. I never truly loved that one on the BHSE, but the BK does the trick, instant gratification here, finally the bass is there. And, icing on the cake, it actually matches my black BHSE, optically :-)"
