Intimate sound with Comfort

"First the customer service and shipping speed from headamp is top notch. I have the Stax l300 and wanted to see how a different variation and driver shape would compare. The SR-x1 is a great sounding headphone. Very smooth and mids are very beautiful with vocals. Bass is good, but seem a little light compared to the l300. Overall I prefer the sound of the l300 as it has a wider soundstage and punchier bass, however the sr-x1 is also fantastic with better build quality and comfort overall. I feel it’s a good complement to the lambda as it’s a more intimate flavor! It’s a great value and sound quality for the price!"

Wow, what a headphone!

"This is my first adventure in the electrostatic headphones realm, purchased with the STAX DRM-D50 DAC/AMP unit. What a great combo! The price is unbeatable too, if you are looking to explore what electrostatic headphones have to offer. The sound is crystal clear, balanced, high definition and sounds amazing on symphony/orchestra genre. The weight is very light so it doesn't get tiring after long listening session. Very simple to use. You're going to be happy with the performance at this price. For reference, I also have the BeyerDynamics T5 closed back dynamic headphone. Using both sets with either my PC via USB DAC input or iBasso DX180 audio player."

Pretty Good. Not Bad.

"As a basic model from Stax, SR-X1 sound pretty good just like my SR-X MK3 from 1980. The sheepskin earpads should last longer. They are light and comfortable. The bass response is not bad either. After two weeks with various amp's (medium/small SRM and SRD+amp's), I like the SRM-253S with them the most. Perhaps it is the roll-off of the higher frequency. They are okay for a couple of hours of casual listening."

Best e-stat under a grand?

"I prefer SR-X1 over my L500 for two reasons: 1. improved build quality - L500 plastic chassis creaks and the headband gimbals are flimsy - however, I must note that the earpads are quite small on SR-X1 so may be a deal breaker for some. I made a pad adapter for larger pads (see pics) 2. improved sound quality - less 1kHz peak on SR-X1 - without EQ - SR-X1 is the winner."

Great Sound

"These are some really great headphones. Smooth, but crisp sound which is quick and layered well. I like the transparency and sound staging of these as well. Overall very pleased, especially for the price; however keep in mind you will need an Electrostatic energizer for these which are pricey. They are lightweight and comfortable, with a great quality cable. Of course they are fully open in design so you wouldn’t want to listen to these in a space with too much ambient noise otherwise your enjoyment would suffer; however they do get quite loud (you need to be careful not to turn them up too high because they get louder than they seem due to the way they present the audio–not a ton of sound pressure or slam, but accurate and extended and smooth.)"

My new favorite pair

"The STAX SR-X1s are my first pair of electrostatic headphones. Needless to say, they are a breakthrough in sound reproduction. Very crisp, quick and dynamic when it comes to mids and highs. But there is plenty of bass to be had if you have the right kind of energizer. My iFi Audio iCAN PHANTOM drives electrostatics adequately, but you really do need a dedicated, powerful energizer like the Woo Audio ES8 Electrostatic Amplifier to get the most out of your headphones. The STAX SR-X1s are now my favorite pair of headphones. Not bad for an entry-level sub-$600 pair of cans. The have converted me over to the electrostatic side of the street. I will be buying exclusively those type of headphones going forward. Already sold my Focal Utopias for funds needed to buy the CRBN2s, as suggested by Justin at Headamp. A+ product and service."
