All new Diaphragm
SR-X9000 is the new flagship earspeaker which surpasses SR-009. The four-layer fixed electrode “MILER-3” is installed. Combining a big metal mesh, STAX evolved the multi-layer MLER-2. Because metal-mesh reduces air resistance and the effect of reflection, it has the high sound transparency. So metal-mesh is the ideal material of fixed electrodes. But so far mesh-metal was difficult to manufacture and not installed in fixed electrodes. However, using the diffused junction (thermocompression bonding) technology that STAX acquired when manufacturing SR-009 and SR-009S, metal-mesh can be used as the material of fixed electrodes.
The diaphragm is made of ultra-thin super engineering plastic film. Due to weight saving close to zero, great transient characteristic is realized. From the base to the high range, the linearity of the sound is improved.
The enclosure of the sound unit is made of tough machined aluminum. This new design firmly fixes the sound unit and completely eliminates unnecessary vibrations. The sound wave from the unit flows more smoothly. The improved acoustic characteristic inside the enclosure realizes clearer sound unaffected by sound reflection. The guard mesh which is installed parallel to the sound element generates the direct reflections which affect a bad influence on the sound. This problem is solved for SR-X9000. The guard mesh has pillars of different lengths in front and back. This design changes the height of the gap between the sound element and the guard mesh. So the guard mesh cannot be parallel to the sound element and the reflection angle is completely controlled. The sound wave flows smoothly.
Redesigned For Improved Comfort and Durability
The main material of the arc assembly is upgraded to stainless steel. The arc assembly is more tolerant to torsion and the earspeaker more stably fits your ears. The material of the head pad which directly contacts to the skin is genuine leather. The position can be adjusted by the slider parts with 9 step clicking system.
The material of the ear pads is genuine leather (sheep skin) which has excellent breath-ability and softness. Genuine leather makes the earspeaker to closely fit your ears for a long time and you can fully enjoy the high quality bass and vivid sound. This also reduces fatigue and you can comfortably listen to the music for a long time. The storage case is made of “paulownia wood” which has low thermal conductivity and humidity control capacity. This case is an excellent storage solution alongside the Official Stax Headphone Cover!
Featuring Modular Cable System
The material of the core cable is a 6NCu ultra-pure annealed copper wire ( φ 0.14×3). The material of the around core cable is a silver plated annealed copper wire ( φ 0.08× 9). So high and low frequency is improved. The cable can be changed. 2 cables (2.5m and 1.5m) are included and you can choose the cable according to your listening style.

"I bought the SR-X9000 from HeadAmp. Since the service and shipping were impeccable, I’ll focus only on the headphones themselves. Compared with the Sennheiser HE 1, which I’ve been lucky enough to hear several times, the HE 1 comes across more direct and impactful, with thicker mids and bass. On tracks with prominent low end or male vocals, it sounds fuller and more enveloping. The SR-X9000, by contrast, is gentler and more refined. Treble is present but never sharp, and female vocals have a sweeter tone. With small ensembles, solo vocals, or less dense arrangements, the X9000’s lines are smoother and easier to listen to for long sessions. Both deliver top-tier detail—there are plenty of nuances you typically won’t catch on many dynamics or planars. The difference is in presentation: the HE 1 emphasizes scale and power, while the SR-X9000 highlights texture and decay against a very quiet background, making it feel more relaxed and effortless. That also affects music pairing: if you mostly listen to large orchestral works, pop/rock, or male vocals, the HE 1’s energy may be more compelling; if you prefer female vocals, chamber music, or solo instruments, the SR-X9000 tends to shine. Chain matching matters a lot with the SR-X9000. With an RME ADI-2 into a Stax SRM-700S (I chose these due to a constraint amount of space), I found the low end a bit dry and less flavorful. Hearing the X9000 driven by a BHSE (where I heard from other players, I don’t recall the DAC BTW) gave a rounder, better-layered bass. Mid-tier DAC/amp combos also made the soundstage feel a bit constrained, whereas stepping up the front end opened it up noticeably—approaching the kind of width I associate with the HD800. If you can, pair the SR-X9000 with a higher-end source and amp; the improvement is significant. It's absolutely fantastic overall."

"After breaking them in for about two weeks, my Stax SR-X9000 headphones have become stunning performers in the areas of detail retrieval, sonic imageing and layering. They produce a large sound stage, with precise instrument placement, and with a relaxed sonic signature that can be listened to for hours. They are power efficient like my Stax Sr-009s and L700s, and can be driven well by smaller electrostic amplifiers. If one is into the electrostatic headphone sound, these are, in my opinion, the finest headphones in the world."

"I received these a week ago on January 18, 2025. I purchased the package deal from HeadAmp that included both the STAX SR-X9000 earspeakers and the STAX SRM-T8000 amplifier. I couldn't wait to give it all a try. Like many of you out there, my setup is in the process of being upgraded in terms of components and cables in a never ending quest for perfection. Despite all my midlevel gear, the SR-X9000s are the best sounding listening experience I have ever experienced. And these earspeakers aren't even broken in yet! The details I am hearing exceed those I was able to hear with the Abyss Diana TC. Before these STAX, the Diana were my best headphones in terms of depth, separation of vocals and instruments, soundstage, precision, and speed. Their ability to pick up every single sound in a track is truly amazing. Remarkably, I am happy to say the SR-X9000 does that all the Diana does and even better. The SR-X9000s are truly an endgame in my opinion. I can't imagine a more complete listening euphoria. A special thanks to Justin and all his help as I contemplated different setups and even made some changes in terms of the amp I selected. Justin is always quick to reply and offer his honest opinion. Besides the excellent service, HeadAmp's prices are great, and becoming a VIP is highly recommended. Ask Justin about it and he will fill you in. While my quest for perfection is currently satisfied by the STAX SR-X9000 and the STAX SRM-T8000 amp, we all know who that usually goes. I am sure I will be consulting with Justin a HeadAmp soon. "Full disclosure: I have not heard these headphones, yet, so I can't comment on the sound. Why? I don't have the electrostatic amp, yet. However, what I can say is that these things look amazing and feel super comfortable when I put them on my head. I love the aesthetics and they just scream quality! - The STAX SR-X9000 ear pads are about 1” thick in the back, .5” in the front, and top/bottom are somewhere in the middle
