Anni is Chord's first-ever desktop integrated amplifier. Capable of driving both headphones and compact loudspeakers. Anni benefits from the company’s proprietary ULTIMA circuit topology and is perfectly positioned to exploit the full potential of today’s high-performance headphones, desktop monitors and high-resolution audio sources.

Our Take

The new Anni desktop integrated amplifier forms part of the Qutest range and seamlessly complements the resolving abilities of the multi-award-winning Qutest standalone DAC and Huei phono stage. As a system, the Qutest components provide an unrivalled desktop audio solution, offering class-leading digital and analogue technologies for the modern music lover. The company’s compact QSS (Qutest Stand System) modular equipment rack provides the perfect support, too.

Anni offers the recently announced dual-feed-forward error-correction circuit topology whether using headphones or compact loudspeakers. Anni’s advanced technology allows it to drive any headphone load, error-monitored and compensated amplification at all times.

Features

Benefitting from both 3.5 mm headphone outputs and ¼-inch (6.35 mm) outputs, so two can listen simultaneously, plus 4 mm banana-type loudspeaker outputs, Anni delivers 10 watts of quality ULTIMA amplification, controlled by a fascia-mounted volume control that also doubles as an input selector switch for Anni’s two line-level inputs. A two-stage gain control for loudspeakers provides additional flexibility with a wide range of desktop monitors.

Chord + HeadAmp = A+ 👍

"I am a huge Chord fan and the Anni didn't disappoint - it's a solid, industrial strength build and pairs beautifully with the Qutest. Purchased a rack for the Anni as well. . . like the devices, it is a precision build. Also, the service from the HeadAmp team was flawless - good communication with fast and reasonable shipping."

Awesome as expected

"Sounds as good as my reference amp - Fisher 500C. Setup is Chord Anni + Qutest + Harbeth P3 speaker. sublime with measured softness/warmth. Ultra-wide soundstage and details, and surprisingly subtantial bass. I was pleasantly surprised to see that this has enough power for Harbeth P3 speaker (Sensitivity 83dB)."

Can it be better?

"It's Friday evening. Wife and kids went to bed. Your preferred bourbon freshly poured. The music playlist is queued up. TLDR: your newly acquired Chord Qutest & Anni stack will take your musical experience to heights never experienced - just go ahead and purchase your Chord DAC and HP amp from HeadAmp - you've reached headphone desktop endgame !! Look, you can spend much less on Chinese made equipment and call it a day. I have obsessed in the last few months trying to acquire the best DAC/AMP desktop setup that I could afford; for reference, I have tried Denafrips Enyo 15th, Singxer SA-1 v2, and, sure, I did get sound, but I was seeking superlative musical experience. If that sounds like you, you'll want and need the Chord products - I'm convinced that Rob Watts (the FPGA chip designer) possesses the dark art of musical magic! You will experience instrumental separation, precise pinpointing, wide soundstage, all presented in a warm and accurate manner. I honestly don't know if one can get better. Worth noting that the HeadAmp team has been great to deal with - I got both my Chord Qutest DAC and Anni HP amp from them. They arrived in less that 48hrs, carefully packed. I couldn't be happier with my decision!"

Powerful little amp

"I bought the Chord Anni to pair with my Chord Qutest DAC. They appear to be exactly the same size and have the same design aesthetic - black aluminum, glowing balls - and match each other. I've been listening to this combo using Focal Clear MG Pro and Sennheiser HD600 headphones. Compared to my Chord Mojo 2 and FiiO E7/E9, the Anni is substantially more powerful. The volume knob is linear in response, but the Anni is so powerful that by 20% or so, the volume hits a "too high for my ears" threshold for the HD600s (which have a 300 ohm impedance) and at 15% or so, the Clears hit the same threshold (55 ohms), and the Anni will just keep going up. Although I haven't tested speakers or other headphones with the Anni, my speculation is that Anni would be powerful enough to drive pretty much any headphone you throw at it. The sound is clear and has depth. I listened to a wide range of music and the result is the same: clean, deep, and powerful delivery. The sound differences between the Clears and HD600s are evident with the Anni/Qutest combo, which is something I did not expect and I assume is a result of the transparency of the duo (their differences are far less evident on my FiiO and Mojo 2 units). One item of note is that there is a fan in the Anni that never turns off, including when the device is turned off and cold to the touch, but still plugged in. The fan is audible when not listening to music, but the fan is not audible when listening to music (the unit sits about 2 feet away from me, on my desk). The Anni gets warm, so ensure good ventilation and if you stack components, leave it at the top of the stack. Another item worth note is that the volume knob has a little play/wiggle in it, which seems a little off for a Chord product but functionally has no impact. If I was to sum it up, it's small, powerful, clear sounding, and has a premium build/look. The only detractor for me is the fan sound. That said, it works great for me."
