ZEN Air DAC

Improve the quality of your everyday audio with the ZEN Air DAC. DAC stands for Digital-to-Analog converter. In a nutshell, a DAC converts the digital info in your source device – your computer, game console, tablet, or smartphone – to music that we can hear through speakers or headphones. Every device that is a source of digital sound has a built-in DAC. External DACs sound much better that the standard DACs used inside these devices.

Hearing is believing

The ZEN Air DAC outputs very hi-res (high resolution) quality audio. This is much better than the standard audio that you would get from just using your computer, game console, tablet, or smartphone. Imagine the difference in quality from a standard TV to a 4K Ultra HD TV — but in sound! This is the difference an external DAC makes to your music. Once you hear it, you’ll be converted (not just your audio)!

The ZEN Air DAC supports different file formats – PCM 32bit/384kHz, fully native DSD256, and MQA.

  • PCM – Pulse Code Modulation is the file format used in CD, DVD, Blu-ray, and other digital audio applications. It’s the next step up from MP3.
  • DSD – Direct Stream Digital is a very high-quality audio format, better than CD quality. The higher the number (sample rate), the better the recording – DSD64, 128, 256, 512 and 1024. Fully native means that it hasn’t been altered in any way from the original recording.
  • MQA – Master Quality Authenticated is an award-winning audio technology that enables music fans to stream the original master recording into their home, car, or their mobile phone. With the ZEN Air DAC, you can listen to MQA straight out of the box. Simply connect to Tidal Masters and check the option to stream MQA.

Sonic tailoring

The ZEN Air DAC also sports a couple of unique sonic tweaks from iFi. PowerMatch adjusts the gain of the ZEN Air DAC so that it functions at the right level for your headphones. Gain is just a unit of measurement that indicates how loud an audio source is and is measured in decibels (dB). XBass+ allows you to tailor the bass to suit your headphones and your personal taste. Both are designed to improve and personalize your listening experience.

And breathe…

Most DACs still use digital volume control – this is analog. What does this mean? When you reduce the volume on other DACs, you remove data from the song or soundtrack. With analog volume control, you reduce the volume whilst maintaining the quality. Put simply, the ZEN Air DAC is an easy way to experience super clear, hi-res audio quality in your everyday listening.

Sift through the noise, breathe in the Air.

Great little DAC

"I am using the Air Zen line out to send a signal to my Burson Funk and that system rocks. The DAC is providing a great source from my iMac and Tidal. Headphones sound great too. Highly recommended. A+."

Well Worth It!

"I purchased this because my current DAC only has one RCA out and is connected to my tube amp. The tube amp runs to my speakers but I wanted something else to control the speakers in case I won't be listening long enough to warrant starting up the tubes. This thing does the job perfectly. It can be powered by USB so you just use that for data as well and have a clean less cabled set up. There's no on/off switch so the data light is always on but I just covered that with tape, a simple workaround."

HEADAMP.COM

"You guys do a great job at what you do. As you know, the ZEN AIR DAC didn't really work out for me (died after 2 weeks) but I'm so glad you stand by your sales and back up your products. Excellent communication after the sale. Thank You, MJB"

Works Flawlessly, Love the xBass!

"Powers my Meze 109 Pro headphones just fine ... the xBass adds a nice dimension to my Dioko iems. Unit arrived a day earlier than promised in perfect working order. Well done HeadAmp!"

First Real DAC

"Used an HiBy FC3 up until now but bought that one for my Desk/Listening setup. Arrived on time with no issue at all, all accessories in box, safe and sound. Greatly satisfied with my purchase. A definitely needed upgrade from my portable DAC. The XBAss+ is really exciting. Paired it with an AMP. Amazing listening experience. I think this is my first and last upgrade for AMP/DAC. Recommend if you're on a budget."

Zan Air DAC review, compared to Zen DAC V2

"I'm a ifi Zen DAC V2 owner, purchased the Zen DAC Air for my friend's gift. Compared to mine, it really performed really well considering it's almost half the price. I prefer the Truebass than the XBass, but it did offer decent boost in the bass extension to make the music more dynamic (in my opinion). It is missing balanced output, but my friend doesn't have any headphone that requires the balanced output. Highly recommended if anyone's looking for a budget system with a splash of musical MSG."

"Worked Great"

Mason R. (5/5)

Great first DAC

"I use these paired with the Zen CAN amp/preamp, and they drive my Sennheiser HD660S headphones. They sound amazing when paired together, but I have also tried just the DAC by itself, and it has great sound quality."

Jacob S. (5/5)

First ifi DAC

"Overall the sound quality is good a budget DAC under $100. If the build quality is better I will give it 10 out 10."

Thanh B. (5/5)

First external DAC

"I have no previous experience with external DACs but it’s great. Light in the front for the Khz indicator is not too bright which is a good thing for listening in the dark. X bass button is probably my favorite feature though. At $99 its a great price but getting it for even less with a sale was a steal."
